Bin Faked Videos?

Uncle Bill Warner

Isn’t it amazing how there Bin Laden tapes always seem to appear at just the right time: just before the 2004 election, right now when Bush’s ratings are in the toilet? Little things like this, coupled with the seeming inability to pursue or catch the guy, the fact that there is praise in it for Noam Chomsky, the intellectual voice of the American Left. He is someone the Bushies would love to smear (which is what Bin Laden's "endorsement" does), if for nothing else than his landmark film “Manufacturing Consent” which shows how our government, deprived of dictatorial powers used in some other countries, must use propaganda (lies) constantly to manipulate the citizens, while maintaining the appearance of a democracy, make one wonder about its authenticity.

Could the tapes be faked up? I remember one which was so bad that a 3 yr. old with a video camera could have done better. Now why was the most feared man in the world unable to get a decent videographer? Also, anyone who saw Forrest Gump knows that it is a piece of cake to fake up movies. Our government has the technology to do that. Would they be above using it if it served their purposes.

I will also admit that, sadly, I have come to regard anything coming out of Washington with great suspicion, given the deplorable history of half-truths and outright lies which have been fed to us over the past few years, the worst of which which got us into this disastrous war and occupation.

“Bin Laden’s” most recent offering also offers the ludicrous solution to the present situation by stating that the “… U.S. should convert to Islam.” That ought to energize Bush’s disillusioned fundamentalist Christian base! How timely. How fortunate.

It is hard not to be skeptical about this latest “Bin Laden” tape, which has been labeled “out of character” by scholars who have studied Islamic terrorism.” “Osama Bin Laden’s” tapes have been used time and time again to keep Americans in a state of fear. Each time one surfaces, it is played up uncritically by the media, and support for governmental policies, such as increased surveillance of Americans, justifying torture and illegal detainment, deficit spending, etc. goes up. Fear is a marvelous tool for control.

In Bin Laden's first interview after the 9/11 attacks, he denied any involvement. Don’t terrorists always claim responsibility for attacks they have perpetrated? Otherwise why bother killing people to send a political message? Then, his “confession” video was magically found in a house in Afghanistan right after our guys moved in, and featured Osama laughing and joking about how he'd carried out 9/11. The video was also mistranslated (in order to manipulate viewer opinion?) and featured "Bin Laden" praising two of the hijackers, only he got their names wrong. This latter-day Osama also uses the wrong hand to write with and wears gold rings, a practice totally in opposition to the Muslim faith. And the latest video has him with a dyed beard. Strange for a man who is known for his lack of vanity. Hmmmmmmmm.

To paraphrase Voltaire, "If Osama Bin Laden didn’t exist, the Bush Administration would have to invent him." Could "Bin Laden " possibly be the best friend the present administration has ever had? I think we need to give that some thought, don't you?
